What is QK studio?
QK is a Japanese word(休憩) meaning “to take a break”. With over 30 years of experience, drawing pictures AND taking breaks, we are so excited to be starting this new adventure.
Founded on the three driving forces of Willie’s entire life: friendship, freedom and focus, we plan on making QK studio not just any run-of-the-mill design company but a place to really feel welcome, involved and a proud part of the artistic process. Making art with friends ensures an enjoyable sense of accomplishment and produces a tangible memory for generations to come.
QK studio originally started under the name 絵lement. 絵 means picture. Clever, hey?! Straight out of high school, after a few years screen printing and freelance illustrating, Willie moved to Japan, got married and attempted to start anew and pursue his art career. However, 絵lement ended up on the back burner as he got involved teaching English at class e. Willie went on to take over class e as teaching English was a fulfilling and rewarding way to contribute to the Japanese community, another dream he wanted to fulfill.
But now it is time to get back on the path to pursue art. With class e under new management starting April 2017, Willie is crossing the Pacific to return to South Carolina and contribute to the forever growing artistic community that is the small town of Newberry.
